“Commercial food is to natural, local food what Britney Spears is to music.”
Pierre Dunant in response to How I fell in love with a fish
Each year TED invites some of the brightest people in the world and asks them to give the speech of their lives in 18 minutes. The results are often spectacular and almost always inspiring. Above is one of many great comments left in response to this year’s amazing videos. I have only started watching, but if you haven’t taken a look yet, you really should stop by. I enjoyed watching Jamie Oliver, who was this year’s TED prize winner. He was really nervous, but really passionate also. I think I am going to watch The Magic of the Placebo next.
“I got mad love for you, shorty. That’s on the real. I like — I wanna like listen to Boyz II Men when I’m with you.”
We only just now got around to watching The Wackness. It’s got a soundtrack that will send you traveling back through time. We’re still watching, but so far, two thumbs up.
Really interesting article from Spiegel on the reasons behind last year’s crash of Air France flight 447. Since the mechanical failure leading to the crash seems to be one that could easily reoccur, the most relevant quote for anyone who flies is probably: “Many frequent flyers have since opted for daytime flights across the Atlantic because pilots can recognize storm fronts more easily during the day.”
Glee’s Jayma Mays, as mysophobic Emma Pillsbury, has nailed every blush, sigh, and wide-eyed look of the hopelessly besotted. She manages to be completely charming playing a character that in the wrong hands would have quickly become cloying. Her cast mate, Jane Lynch, is also excellent playing the ferocious Sue Sylvester. Love, love, LOVE her.
Can’t wait till this show starts up again in April.
